Orchestra Ensemble 2010/2011
Unique among the extracurricular activities at Fresta Valley is the string orchestra program. Beginning in the third grade, students have the opportunity to join a string orchestra at their grade level. We currently have four independent orchestras. As a student progresses through the different levels, they gain important skills which prepare them for musical excellence. At each level, more is expected of the students to develop a high level of musicianship.
Creating music is an ability and gift given by God. Multiple emotions and reflections are evoked through this medium; they stand as analogies for our very lives. Music gives words for the unspeakable things inside of us. There was an ancient idea called, “Musical universalis,” or in English, the music of the spheres. This idea taught that even the planets in their orbits resemble proportions which create harmonies more beautiful than human perception is capable of grasping. The way I see it, music can unlock part of the beauty of the universe for all of us if we just take the time to appreciate it. That is the real goal of the strings program at Fresta Valley. We attempt to learn the innate beauty of music knowing that behind that beauty, there is a Creator. He created all things and desires for us to find his beauty in his creation, that we may know him better. Soli Deo Gloria!
