Volleyball
The fall (August-October) sport for the girls is volleyball. Practices are held after school on the sports’ court next to the secondary wing of the school.

The middle school team, under the direction of first year coach, Chuck Freer, pulled off one surprise after another. A young team of mostly 6th and 7th graders emboldened by determination and tenacity, surprised nearly everyone. After only 2 wins in their first 5 matches, the girls won 12 of the final 13 matches. The final match was for the VMSC Championship against previously undefeated Rappahannock County. After losing the first game and being down 10-0 in the second, the girls rebounded to take the 2nd and decisive 3rd game to win the title.

Marianne Streeter’s JV team was just as successful. Winning 8 of 9 matches, the girls won the VACA North Region JV Girls Championship.

Varsity coaches Tim and Kelly Hogan began the volleyball season by holding FVCS’s first ever volleyball camp. This was an excellent time of preparation and skill development for all the girls. The season itself was an up and down affair with several wins followed by a losing streak. The team stated post-season play with a winning record and they finished the season with 8 wins and 8 loses.
