The orchestra department at Fresta Valley Christian School is comprised of our Beginning, Intermediate and Advanced Orchestras, as well as a Chamber Ensemble. Since its inception in 1991, the orchestra program has trained young Christian musicians in the classical works from Bach to Tchaikovsky with the primary goal of glorifying God through the gift of music.
The program begins in third grade and continues through twelfth grade. Orchestra is a daily scheduled elective class. There are many performance opportunities throughout the year, which include our annual Christmas and spring concerts. The Intermediate and Advanced Orchestras and the Ensemble participate in Junior and Senior Regionals, All-Virginia Orchestra and VBODA Festivals. The Chamber Ensemble also participates in music festivals around the nation receiving numerous superior ratings and first place honors. In 2004, the Ensemble recorded a Christmas Classics CD, and is in the process of recording another CD.
The orchestra also takes advantage of many outreach opportunities such as a Red Cross Katrina Relief fundraiser and ministering to senior citizens in the community. Many of our students play in their church and youth group activities. We also have an active alumni, who continue to use their musical abilities wherever God leads them.
